Executive Message: Bridge the Gap November 06, 2007 Joe Morton — president of international and distributor relations, XanGo, LLC
There are scarce few people, if any, that start out with a reality that matches their dreams. There is work and there is a journey involved in getting what you want and—more importantly—in being who you want. There is a gap that needs bridging and a distance that needs traveling. And it doesn’t always look easy.

A scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade comes to mind. Indiana arrives at the brink of a chasm deeper than the eye can see. There is no visible way for him to cross it and reach his destination. He is faced with the impossible. All he sees is the sheer cliff edge and the vast gulf beneath him. But as he studies his guidebook, his face relaxes in realization, and he says, “It's a leap of faith.” With his father whispering, “You must believe, boy, you must believe,” Indiana looks straight ahead, gathers his courage, and slowly raises one foot into the air. With a thud, his foot lands on solid ground. The camera pans to show Indiana standing on a narrow rock bridge, deceptively carved to match the exact outline of the ravine beneath it.
The first step toward your dreams might be nerve-wracking or uncomfortable, but it’s never impossible. Don’t let it hold you back. In the words of Belva Davis, “Don’t be afraid of the space between your dreams and reality. If you can dream it, you can make it so.”
I firmly believe that. I’ve seen it happen time and time again. Remember that dreaming is not for escaping reality. It is for changing it. Even if it takes an Indiana Jones–style leap of faith, don’t be afraid. Bridge the gap.
